One of my very favorite things about photographing babies and children is seeing all these expressions. Who would believe that there are so many? So many ways to smile, so many ways to laugh, so many ways to just look around at the world intently.

And how magical that in capturing one of these, you can look back years and years later and connect with that very moment, that very stage, that very being. There’s nothing else quite like it.

During photo sessions, I really do strive to capture all those faces. My clients often tell me, after viewing their proofs, that they had no idea that I was capturing so many of those expressions during our time together. It may have been just one fleeting moment, so quick, yet when isolated by the camera, it preserves so much for us to savor and re-experience later.
